Robust, comfy and well designed

As someone who regularly forgets to put on their pads until after they've put their shoes on, these pads have a great design allowing you to undo the Velcro and fit them without having to take your shoes off. They're very robust against other pads Ive owned and I think they'd take a much bigger impact. There is plenty of adjustability, and the towelling backing means they are comfy. The only loss of a point is that they get quite warm initially until your skin starts to sweat & dampen the towelling, then the airflow seems to cool them back down. Otherwise they are excellent. Size wise I'm 6ft / 181cm, 85kg and the XL fit well as I have pretty solid thigh and calf from years of rugby and triathlon.

Worth ever penny

I wouldn't hesitate to but these again, they're very high quality and comfortable but don't underestimate the importance of correct sizing. Tredz have been very helpful in getting me to the right size and their customer service is exceptional. Next purchase will be from Tredz again

Worth the money

Ive had these out on 3 trips now and I cannot fault them, Easy to put on due to the open back, fit well and keep my knees cool at the back. Amazing bit of kit, and imho worth every penny. They give a good increase in confidence and if I was to push it to far then im confident that these will come into there own and protect my knees as well as making me look good while im sliding down the track

Comfortable and functional

I found these Race Face D30 knee guards more comfortable than expected - I hardly noticed them after a few minutes pedalling - and did not cook my knees, even when the temperature was in the high 20 deg C. Importantly, they worked when I crashed. The pads staying in place and my knees remained intact (not cuts or bruises), pity about my shoulders...

RaceFace Ambush d30 Knee Pad

Brilliant pad to say the least! However be sure to pick the correct sizing. If i were to buy again i would probably pick S instead of M. Overall good construction reasonable fit and the best protection. Its worth a buy!

Protective Guide

What is protective equipment?

Protective equipment includes knee pads, elbow pads, shin guard, wrist guards and back protection – any semi-rigid guards you might wear for risky riding.

Who needs protective equipment?

Protective equipment is often favoured by off-road riders, such as mountain bikers tackling riskier activities such as downhilling. Also, stunt riders such as BMXers or jump bike riders might also need them.

What are the choices?

You can choose padding for your arms, legs and back. Some protective gear is made from more flexible material that only hardens on impact – clever stuff.

What should I buy with it?

Don’t forget your head – a full face helmet offers you the best protection for more adventurous cycling activities.

Anything else?

Think about how your padding will fit with the rest of your cycling clothing. Does it go under or over your clothes and will it be compatible with the rest of your cycling wardrobe?
