The Scott Contrail 20 is built around a lightweight but tough 6061 custom-butted alloy frame, engineered with trail-inspired geometry for stability on descents and confidence on uneven terrain. Its longer front end and balanced angles help you stay controlled as the trail twists and turns, while internal cable routing keeps the bike looking clean and low-maintenance.
A Suntour XCT30-HLO fork provides 100mm of travel to smooth out rough tracks and rooty sections. With rebound adjustment and an on-fork lockout, it’s easy to stiffen the fork for climbs or commuting while enjoying plush performance when the trail heads downward.
Shimano’s CUES 11-speed drivetrain brings durable LINKGLIDE technology, designed for riders who want smooth, reliable shifting and long-lasting components. The wide 11–50t cassette offers excellent range for steep climbs and varied terrain, giving newer and experienced riders alike the gears they need to explore more trails.
Braking is handled by Tektro’s HD-M275 hydraulic disc brakes, providing consistent stopping performance in all weather conditions—ideal for UK riding. Paired with 29" Alex X-20 wheels and versatile Maxxis Rekon Race 2.4” tyres, the Contrail 20 rolls quickly while offering predictable grip on loose surfaces.
Comfort and control come from thoughtful finishing kit, including a 720mm handlebar for confident steering, a supportive DDK saddle and secure lock-on grips. The standard 31.6mm seatpost also offers easy upgrade potential for riders wanting to add a dropper post in the future.
With its balanced feel, practical component choices and trail-friendly geometry, the Scott Contrail 20 is a superb gateway into mountain biking and the perfect partner for weekend rides, woodland exploring and local trail adventures.

* Mountain bikes are sized differently to road bikes. Typically, they are sized in inches as the first MTBs were produced in the USA. European brands like Lapierre and Haibike like to use centimetres for all their bikes. The measurements of their mountain bikes doesn’t match their road bikes but are like a simple conversion from the inches measurement. This is why we have included cm measurements in brackets for the Mountain bike column.
Read our bike size guide for more information on sizing.
