Nice chain at a decent price
by Matthew H on 07/07/2020

A student friend of mine broke the chain on her ancient clunker, and that meant she was grounded... so I did her a good turn by buying this one and putting it on for her. The old chain was in terrible condition, and had stretched about half a link in length! But the sprockets were good still. The quick link worked very easily and she was able to cycle home. She reports that the bike 'feels much smoother to pedal', result!

Properly nice chain
by Matthew H on 07/07/2020

I was building up a bike with second hand Dura-Ace 9000 series components, and got to the chain... and considered using an Ultegra or other chain. But I bit the bullet and got this chain, and I'm glad I did. It really is superb quality, as good as Campag Record, and feels deliciously smooth to pedal. As they say, 'don't spoil the ship for a ha'porth of tar', get a decent chain, you won't regret it.

complicated link, and was unable to fit. dumped it in the bin and bought an alternative chain with an easier link system for half the price.

Decent chain
by John R on 11/09/2017

I ride my MTB all year round in all weathers. Daily on the road / canal towpath, for the commute, & several times a week off road. Particularly on the dark winter nights I might not clean them as well as I should,. For that reason I replace my chain once a year & these are spot on. The only weak link is the connecting link. I've had them fail. A KMC Missing Link soon put that right. For the money you can't really go wrong. Appulsorse.

Obvious choice chain replacement
by VICTOR H on 01/12/2015

Very simple to fit, a quality chain for the price, often overlooked but can't beat for value. Easy to miss when a chain needs replacing but this makes gear changes so much easier again. Probably the most overlooked part on the bike as it will work in a worn out state. Best buy for under £10 in my view.

Chains Guide

What are chains?

The chain is the crucial element that drives the rest of your drivetrain.

Who needs a chain?

All conventional bikes have a chain and they don’t last forever. You will need to replace your chain if it breaks or if a chain checking tool shows it’s too worn.

What are the choices?

Chain choice can be bewildering – it’s crucial you get the right chain width for your bike. Most chains don’t list the width, instead stating the type of cassette it’s suitable for e.g. eight-speed or 11-speed. Some will list the width, though, such as 3/32in.

What should I buy with them?

Every chain needs chain lube to keep it running squeak free.

Anything else?

Don’t delay changing a worn chain. Not only are you at risk of being stranded when it snaps, but a worn chain can cause wear to the rest of your drivetrain, which can be a costly mistake.
