Great performance, and cheap as chips

Bought this cassette to update an old 7 speed MTB to 8 speed. Worked very well straight away. The nickel finish is handsome, hopefully helps with keeping corrosion at bay and definitely helps with cleaning. Performance wise it is very forgiving, as the new cables stretched the indexing went all over the place but no clattering from the chain at all - shifter showed gear 4 and cassette was in 3 but working perfectly. For someone who grew up with friction shifters that is amazing. If you haven't swapped a cassette before its easy but you will need a special tool, proper technique and a strong arm. Also remember to change your chain at the same time as the chain and cassette wear together. Downsides? It is quite heavy, that's probably it

Low priced but not "cheap".

This is the 4th one of these I've had in 5 years. I ride my MTB all year round in all weathers. Daily on the road / canal towpath, for the commute, & several times a week off road. Particularly on the dark winter nights I might not clean them as well as I should, which might be why they only last a year or so. That said, for the money you can't really go wrong. Appulsorse.

Casettes Guide

What are cassettes?

A bike cassette is the cluster of rear gear cogs attached to the rear wheel.

Who needs a cassette?

Any conventional derailleur-geared bike has a cassette, whether it’s a road bike, a mountain bike or a hybrid. The alternatives are a singlespeed or a hub gear on the rear wheel.

What are the choices?

The main difference between cassettes is the number and size of gear cogs on them. Seven, eight, nine, 10 and 11-speed are the most common.

What should I buy with them?

If you’re replacing your cassette, sometimes you have to replace other parts of your drive train such as your chain or chainrings. This is because they wear evenly together.

Anything else?

With some cassettes you don’t need to replace the whole unit. Instead, just part of the cluster is detachable, so you only swap out the most worn cogs.
