Product Description

The Silca SuperPista Digital Floor Pump addresses the only issues that the traditional track pumps cant achieve. Easy to gauge pressure - the gauge is mounted high up, it's also illuminated and you get an audio alarm making the SuperPista Digital Floor Pump much easier to monitor accurate tyre pressures

This third generation Silca SuperPista combines all of the handcrafted elements which have made SuperPista the go-to pump of the ProTour for more than 30 years, with our two most mechanic and consumer requested features: a high accuracy digital gauge, and gauge readout located at the top of the barrel for easier reading.

Built more like a suspension fork than a traditional pump, the SuperPista combines a full metal shock piston design with the classic Italian leather plunger washer and German Igus linear bearings to create the highest efficiency, smoothest running SuperPista to date.

The oversized aluminium base provides more than 2x the stability of other designs while still being optimized for use with cycling shoes.  The lathe turned Ash handle is a geometric copy of the  SuperPista Ultimate handle and provides the ultimate in comfort and ergonomics.

A first for SILCA pumps, the SuperPista also utilizes a top-mount hose design with top mount magnetic chuck storage.  This puts the chuck right at the hands of the user reducing back strain and eliminates bending over to access or store the chuck.  As with the Ultimate pump, the SuperPista now comes standard with the multi-award winning HIRO chuck.  This full metal chuck was originally designed for ultra-high pressure track use, but mechanics have since found that they prefer it for its compact size, adjustability, and extreme holding ability on all valve and valve extension designs.

Floor Pumps Guide

Floor Pump Guide

Floor pumps are the easiest way to pump up your bike tyres manually. Also known as track pumps floor pumps sit on the floor with a footrest for stability and grips for both your hands. We also have bike specific foot pumps. These are operated by your foot pressing down on a lever to pump the air. Both track and foot pumps allow you to add a lot of air to your tyres with each stroke.

What to Look For

No one loves pumping up tyres, but a good floor pump can make this essential task a lot easier. Here are the things to look for when choosing a floor pump for your home workshop.

Valve Head

There are two main valve types used for cycling: ‘Presta’ and ‘Schrader’. Most floor pumps are suitable for both valve types although some very high-pressure pumps are only suitable for Presta Valves. Some pumps will also work with older ‘Dunlop’ valves, and have fittings for pumping up balls etc.

A ‘reversable’ valve head will have one connection but this can be adapted to fit either Presta or Schrader valves by reversing a part inside the valve head. These valve types are best if all your bikes use the same type of valve.

A ‘dual’ valve head has two connections: a small fitting for Presta valves and a larger one for Schrader valves. Dual valve heads with a lever to switch between each tend to work better than those without. Dual valve heads are great if you have two types of valves to work with, Presta on your own bike and Schrader on your kids bikes for example.

Screw on heads are a little more time consuming to fit but offer a better pressure seal, so are more efficient when pumping. These are great for getting very high tyre pressures and seating tubeless tyres.

Max Pressure

Floor pumps are rated up to a specific maximum air pressure. You’ll want one that can easily handle the pressures that you’ll be using, for example, narrow road tyres need a much higher air pressure than wide mountain bike tyres. The maximum air pressure for a specific tyre will be written on the side wall.

It is best to get a pump that is rated to at least 20psi more than the maximum pressure you will need. This is because it can be quite hard work getting up to the max pressure rating of a pump. All floor pumps will be fine for pumping up MTB and hybrid tyres, but a higher-pressure rating is better for road bike tyres as well as for using with a tubeless inflator.

Pressure Gauge

The pressure gauge lets you know how much air pressure is in your tyres as you pump them up. You’ll want a gauge that’s nice and easy to read. Larger gauges are easier to see but so are ones that are positioned towards the top of the pump closer to your eyes.

Digital pressure gauges tend to be more accurate than analogue gauges, so these are a good choice if you like to adjust your tyre pressures by small increments. Some pumps will even connect to a smartphone app, so you can view the pressure on a larger screen close to hand.

Construction

While a plastic bodied floor pump will work alright with most bike tyres, a pump that has a steel or aluminium tube with metal footrests will be much more satisfying to use and will likely last a lot longer. A nice long hose makes a difference too as you’ll be less constrained where you stand to pump up your tyres.

Tubeless Floor Pumps

Great for seating and pumping up tubeless tyres, these pumps combine a tubeless inflator with a regular floor pump. Tubeless floor pumps have a chamber attached to the pump that you can pre charge with air, then release it all at once to seat the tyre on the rim. A simple switch mechanism allows you to change between charging the chamber and pumping up the tyres. Much easier than using a separate pump and inflator.
