Product Description

From the outset of the Torch 3.0 Road shoe design process, our goal was to create a performance offering as feature-packed as any top-end shoe. The challenge, however, was pulling this off at a palatable price.

In order to achieve this, we utilized three strategically placed materials on the uppers that are welded together—TPU and mesh in the front and synthetic leather in the rear. This makes for a more comfortable and supportive front of the shoe. A stiff rear and heel cup, meanwhile, lock down your heel and keep all of your watts going into the pedals as efficiently as possible. This refined upper is combined with our legendary FACT carbon fibre sole to further ensure an efficient power transfer. Finally, we topped the Torch 3.0 off with two Boa® S2-SV Snap dials for zonal closure, and a precise fit that leads to all-day comfort.

  • Body Geometry sole construction and footbeds are ergonomically designed and scientifically tested to boost power, increase efficiency, and reduce chance of injury by optimizing hip, knee, and foot alignment.
  • FACT™ carbon composite sole and torsion box construction is directionally rigid for outstanding power transfer: Stiffness Index 8.5.
  • Dual Boa® S2-SV Snap dial closure for on-the-fly micro-adjustment, backed by the Boa® Lifetime Guarantee.
  • Mesh, TPU, and synthetic layer upper are placed in specific zones for comfort and lock-down, and are thermobonded for a superior fit.
  • Standard Fit for support and all-day comfort.
  • Three-bolt cleat pattern fits all major road pedals.
  • Approximate weight: 248g (1/2 pair, Size 42)

The delivery and service were first class. Unfortunately the shoes were too narrow for me. However I will Definitely use Tredz again.

Good but too narrow
by Anonymous user on 25/08/2020

I bought these because I was looking for a pair of good road shoes and had a pair of specialized mtb shoes in size 45 which had been very good and long lasting. I bought the same size but they were too narrow so I had to return them. Otherwise they seemed very good and well built. Would be good to have some different width options as I never considered myself to have wide feet (foot width is 98mm-102mm for size 45)

My watts on Zwift went up when I switched to these over a pair of Specialized Expert Road even though these are 40g heavier each. Both use the same base and have the same stiffness, but the Torch body is stiffer, the padding less spongy, and the two dials hold my feet more firmly over a larger surface, so I can make them tighter and have less movement of my feet in the shoe. They are a bit less comfortable - I hope they will wear in, but I prefer to wear thicker socks for the time being. The other small niggle is the dials don't pop to release any more, but overall these shoes are excellent

Great shoes!
by Anonymous user on 27/07/2020

Very comfortable and great looking shoes. You need to go a size up but I’ve found that to be the case with most cycling shoes I’ve bought. Rode 35 miles with them straight out of the box, no pinches or rubbing. Would recommend.

Torch 3 Road Shoes
by Anonymous user on 27/07/2020

These are great looking shoes and very visible in yellow when out on the road. The BOA system works well but can cause numbness if overtightened. Happy with these generally, perhaps a bit pricey.

Amazing Shoes
by Philip B on 25/07/2020

Having has a pair of s works shoes since 2014 I changed to Shimano this year RC7 (big mistake) I just couldn't get on with them even with my sidas custom footbeds in. So rather then spend best part of £400 on some new s works saw these advertised at £147 which I thought was a typo at first given price others were offering them at. So I decided to get a pair and as a first time buyer from Tredz also got a £5 discount making the shoes just a crazy £142!!! I was expecting a long wait for them but they were despatched the day after ordering them. On trying the shoes on they were just heaven after my shimano shoes and very much like the S Works I still have. Although the sole is not quite as stiff they still feel solid enough for me. Overall very pleased with my purchase and will certainly be back. Thank you guys 👍

Amazing pair of cycling shoes!
by Thai H on 29/06/2020

This is my first pair so I have nothing to compare it to. I've been using them for 2 weeks now and love them. Super comfortable to use and has a snug fit for me. Love the look of them too!

Road Shoe Guide

Road Cycling Shoe Guide

Road Cycling Shoes

Road cycling shoes are lightweight with stiff soles to help you push your power through the pedals more efficiently. To attach the foot to the bike, road cycling shoes have holes in the bottom for fitting cleats that clip in to the confusingly named clipless pedals. Traditionally, cyclists would use toe clips that wrapped around the shoe to hold their foot firmly on the pedals. Clipless pedals do away with the toe clip and use cleats that attach firmly to the pedals instead.

Which road cycling shoes are compatible with my pedals?

There are two different ways to attach cleats to your shoes and it is important that you choose the correct ones to work with your pedals.

Two-bolt, SPD compatible shoes

The two-bolt, SPD clipless system was developed first for road cycling by Shimano. These use a small cleat that attaches to the shoe with two bolts. SPD pedals are easy to clip in and out of but don’t hold the foot as securely as three-bolt systems.

Two-bolt, SPD compatible shoes

Today two-bolt SPD pedals are mostly used for mountain biking, touring and commuting. That said, SPD pedals are also a good option for road riders who are new to clipless pedals and want to be able to clip in and out easily. SPD cleats are often recessed into the sole of the shoe, so you can still walk relatively normally in these shoes.

There are many other types of pedal that are compatible with the Shimano two-bolt SPD fitting system. SPD compatible shoes are also suitable for use with MTB pedals that use a two-bolt cleat, including those from top brands like Crank Brothers, HT, Time and Look to name a few.

Three-bolt, SPD-SL compatible shoes

The three-bolt, SPD-SL system, also developed by Shimano, is now the type that most road riders use. Three-bolt SPD-SL cleats are much larger than two-bolt SPD style cleats and hold your foot much more securely in the pedals. Just what you need for fast, efficient road cycling.

Three bolt shoes - The cleats use 3 bolts in a triangular arrangement

As well as Shimano, three-bolt SPD-SL shoes are compatible with road bike pedals from brands including Look, HT, Garmin and Wellgo amongst others. The one exception to this are Speedplay pedals that use a four-bolt system, although these are often supplied with adaptors for fitting to three-bolt shoes.

Two and three-bolt compatible shoes

Some road bike shoes are compatible with both two and three-bolt compatible pedals. These shoes will have five holes, so you can choose to fit either an SPD style cleat or an SPD-SL style cleat. These shoes are a great option if you would like to start off using SPD pedals, then move on to SPD-SL pedals once you have gained confidence.

Soles with 5 holes are compatible with both 2 and 3 bolt pedals

Laces, straps, ratchets and BOAs

A snug fit is essential if you want to get the best performance from your shoes. Your feet swell slightly as they warm up, so a system that is easy to adjust while you ride is also an advantage, especially in long rides. While you can get a snug fit with laces, most road bike shoes use different closure systems that are easier to fine tune and more convenient on the bike.

Velcro straps are easy to use and adjust. Entry level road bike shoes will have two or three straps for a snug fit. Ratchet buckle closures offer a more secure fit and are also easy to adjust. Mid-level road cycling shoes often have a top ratchet closure, for a more secure fit, combined with one or two Velcro straps.

BOA and Velcro fastening

A lace up system without the laces, BOA uses steel laces with nylon guides and a dial for easy closure and adjustment. The main advantage of the BOA closure system is its ability to equalize pressure evenly across the foot for a very snug fit that is also comfortable. BOA is micro adjustable, so you can fine tune the fit more closely than a ratchet. Two-way BOA dials make it very easy to adjust the fit during a ride.

Soles

Road bike shoes have very stiff soles for efficient pedalling. Nylon and fiberglass soles are used to make road bike shoes stiff. Carbon soles are the stiffest and lightest and you will find these on top-of-the-range shoes. Some road bike shoes have walking pads on the sole, so you can walk almost normally when off the bike.

Uppers

Ventilated uppers help your feet to breathe and prevent overheating on long rides and you will find these on most road bike shoes. You can wear these shoes all-year-round by slipping on some overshoes in colder weather. Dedicated winter road boots will keep your feet warm and dry when it is really cold and wet. Reflective trim is a feature that is well worth considering for commuting and winter cycling.
