If you can characterize your life as on-the-go, busy, or not having enough time, we made a bike for you—the Women's Turbo Vado 3.0. It's made to accommodate busy lives that are always in movement, which is why we took our exclusive, award-winning pedal-assist technology and accelerated it into the future.

Beginning with the integrated Specialized 1.2 motor, the Vado proves itself as the ultimate city bike. It features a silently operating design with our Custom Rx Street tune that takes the output and makes it the most usable for the urban environment. Think of it this way: The more power you put out, the more power the motor puts out, and this makes accelerations from a standstill both quick and efficient. The belt driven motor is also smooth, silent, and free of annoying vibrations. Perfect.

For the Vado 3.0, we developed a custom 460Wh battery, the Specialized U1-460, that seamlessly integrates into the frame, is lockable, and easily removable for simplified charging. With this battery, the 3.0 will deliver a pedal-assisted boost up to 93 miles in Economy mode, 40 miles in Sport mode, and 25 miles in Turbo mode. These estimates, of course, have some assumptions—the total rider and bike weight is 220 pounds, the terrain is flat with some inclines, and there is either no wind or a light breeze. In other words, with a top speed of 15.5mph, there's plenty of juice to take you to and from work, make a trip to the grocery store, or to even head over to that new café on the other side of town.

We also developed a custom 2.2-inch computer with the German powerhouse, BLOKS. With this smart computer, you're able to view your battery level and toggle various ride metrics such as speed, distance, and time. You can also peruse these screens via the custom handlebar remote without ever removing your hands from the bars.

To top off all of the innovative features, we chose a worry-free spec on the Turbo Vado 3.0, so it features Shimano 10-speed components, hydraulic disc brakes, racks, and fenders.

 Highlights:

  • The Women's Vado frame features a lightweight alloy, step-through frame that that's easy to get on and off of.
  • The Vado’s Specialized 1.2 motor is fully integrated with the frame, and it's also been custom-tuned for city riding. It intuitively reacts to the force of your pedaling, so the harder you pedal, the more power it delivers. And with an internal belt drive design, it does this without added vibration for the smoothest and most silent ride possible.
  • We made the custom 460 Wh battery to be fully integrated with the frame, removable for easy charging, and lockable for added security. It communicates with the display and has multiple modes to maximize the overall efficiency and range.

Great bike misleading advertising

This is a fabulous bike being well made well specified and operates seamlessly in the transition from assisted to pure pedal power. It makes a super commuter. As others have said the Mission Control function does not work and its very poor show on Specilaized part that this function is still unavailable more than 12 months since the bike was launched. On questioning thay say the missing functions will be made available but no certain date is given, customers are just being brushed off in my opinion. Check carefully before you buy , I am not disappointed in the bike but the issue mentioned leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

Brilliant bike let down by lack of App support

Got rid of my car which I wasn’t using nearly enough to justify the monthly cost so got this for the short journeys to friends and family. There’s a lot of hills between me and them but this makes it seem they’re not even there. As the previous reviewer stated Speacilized’s Mission Control App doesn’t work with this or indeed any Vado model because it’s for the Levo range only. A fact not made at all clear on the company’s website. Some quick emails between myself and Specialized revealed that the Vado range is getting its own app (at time of writing) and is some weeks away from release. So for the time being the Vado’s Bloks Display 20 is a very glorified basic trip computer, with speed, distance traveled and lights on/off indication. That being said, if you’re prepared to get the bike and wait for the full app support, you’ll still be getting a superb bike that just swallows up roads and chews up hills.

Happy and disappointed at the same time

Don't buy this bike yet! The bike itself is brilliant, built very well and good range etc. The problem with this bike is that the Bluetooth app that opens up the bike for all the info and options for changing power settings, viewing battery life and route planning etc isn't available yet for the Vado ( which I found out after the purchase so a bit of false advertising) so you are stuck with the primary screen on the bike which shows speed, total distance and trip distance and a vague idea of how much battery is left. There is no range information so less info than on a bike half its value. On top of this the head unit freezes a lot needing a reboot of the bike to restart which is annoying in the middle of a ride. I'm told it needs a software update which no local specialized dealer seems to know how to do as its such new tech. So it's going back to tredz causing me to lose my commuter bike! The tredz team have been helpful but it's a lot of inconvenience for a lot of money!

Electric Bike Guide

What is an electric bike?

A bicycle with an electric motor and battery which supplements your natural pedalling power. Also known as e-bikes or pedelecs, no licence is required and you can ride them in the same places as regular bikes.

How does an electric bike work?

Riding an ebike is very simple, just start pedalling and the electric motor will help you along. The assist is most noticeable when starting off and climbing will seem almost effortless.

How fast can I ride an electric bike?

The electric motor is restricted by law to offer assistance only up to 15.5mph. You can of course ride an e-bike faster than that but you will be relying on your own pedal power over 15.5mph.

Are they heavier than ordinary bikes?

Electric bikes are 7 to 10kg heavier than ordinary bikes due to the extra weight of the motor and battery. You won’t really notice this extra weight while pedalling thanks to the electric assist. E-bikes handle well too as the extra weight is slung down low making them nice and stable.

Can I vary the power output?

Yes, the motors have different power modes so you can choose how much assist you need. The higher power modes will get you up to speed quicker but will use up the battery capacity faster.

How far can I ride on one charge?

The range of an ebike will depend on the battery size as well as the amount of assist the motor gives you. For example, cycling up hills requires more assist than riding on the flat. Battery capacity is measured in Watt Hours (Wh). A 400Wh battery pack will give you a range of 20 – 90 power assisted miles. While a 500Wh pack offers 30 – 140 miles

How can I tell how much charge is left in the battery?

The batteries have a charge indicator so you can easily tell how much is remaining. In addition to this many e-bikes have a display unit on the handlebars. This shows battery capacity as well as other data like speed and predicted range.

Can I still ride it if the battery is flat?

Yes, it will ride just like an ordinary bike (if a little slower due to the extra weight) once the battery is flat. You can also choose to switch the power assist off to save battery power.

Can I take the battery off the bike to charge it?

Yes, electric bike batteries can be charged either on or off the bike. The batteries are locked on to the bike, for security, but are easy to remove so you can charge them in work ready for the commute home.

How long does it take to recharge the battery?

The lithium ion batteries on most e-bike are quick to charge. A 400Wh battery pack will take about 3.5 hours to fully charge from flat. A 300Wh battery will charge in about 2.5hrs.

What type of electric bike should I choose?

As with any bike, the type you choose will depend on where you want to ride. The difference with ebikes is that you don’t have to worry so much about rolling resistance as the electric motor will overcome that. Up to 15.5mph an electric mountain bike will be just as quick as an electric road or hybrid bike. Road and hybrid bikes will offer an increased range however as they are more efficient.
