Ok for price

I bought for the bargain price of £14, which I’m glad I did because there are better £25 racks out there. I bought this to replace a cheap rack that got me out of a fix in a hurry. Disappointingly the rack I removed is better made and of superior quality which I was surprise by. However this one has the extra bar to protect the rear wheel which I needed. The metal arms which attached to the bike frame are flimsy but this was good because I had to bend them about 45 degrees to fit my bike. My panniers clip on ok, but one side the weld is out of line and therefore my clip pops out if no weight in the bag. The other side is fine so assume this is a defect, which I could send back for replacement but not worth it as they work fine when filled. Overall they will do for me for how often I use them, but if I was planning on something to daily use I would spend more.

Tortec Tour

The purpose of buying a rack was so that I could affix a pannier thereto, thereby eliminating the need to carry a backpack. This rack serves the purpose perfectly. It is lightweight, a simple design, simple to fit, inexpensive and doesn't rattle. This is probably due to it not having a sprung clip, about which I am most pleased. Bungees are the way to go if it is necessary to secure other stuff to the rack. The only downside to this rack is that I lost all credibility with my children once I fitted it! Oh well, it's a small price to pay.

Okay for the price

Well designed but fiddly to mount and not nearly as solid as racks in the £20-£25 range. The "arms" that join the rack to the frame are flimsy and you need six nuts difficult to tighten to hold everything in place. My panniers sit securely and the rack should do its job if I don't overload it.

Decent Rack

I bought this rack about 5 years ago and it worked really well for carrying all sorts of loads from fully loaded with luggage to just one small bag for a quick trip to the shops. It fitted well onto multiple bikes although some without eyelets may need to buy pclips.Sadly mine broke when fully loaded with about 15kgs when I hit a very big pothole at speed on an unmade road.I would and have reccomend this rack to anyone looking to carry a bit more than what they can fit in a backpack on their bike.

Bike Racks Guide

What is a bike rack?

A bike rack is a great way of carrying your luggage around on your bike, making them perfect for commuting, touring or family adventures. The rack fits securely to your bike, eliminating the need for a rucksack to burden your back. Racks are easily fitted and removed, so they don’t have to stay in place all the time.

Who needs a bike rack?

Anyone who carries luggage. Whether you’re cycling to work, sightseeing or having a few days away, bike racks are ideal for bearing the brunt of the load. A bike rack is also a great idea for those who suffer from back pain or that find rucksacks uncomfortable.

What are the choices?

There are two locations for bike racks, at the front and rear of your bike. Both can be used to carry luggage. Choose from strong, durable material that is as light as possible. You’ll also need to check that the rack will fit to your bike without getting in the way of any of the components.

What should I buy with it?

The choice of accompanying baggage is endless. Pick from a small, compact bag for occasional jaunts, double panniers for a weekend away or multi-compartment bag to keep yourself organised.

Anything else?

Check the load capacity of your rack – you don’t want to set off and leave a trail of spilt luggage in your wake. Or worse, damage your bike because you’ve packed everything AND the kitchen sink.
