The Trek Fuel EXe 5 bridges the gap between traditional trail bikes and e-mountain bikes. It keeps the lively, responsive feel of a classic full-suspension mountain bike while adding smooth, quiet electric support that feels completely natural.
Natural Power, Seamless Ride
At the heart of the Fuel EXe 5 is the TQ-HPR50 motor — a compact, lightweight drive unit delivering 50 Nm of torque. Using a harmonic pin-ring transmission rather than bulky gears or belts, it’s almost silent and provides an incredibly smooth, natural pedalling experience. The 360 Wh battery is cleanly integrated into the downtube yet easy to remove for convenient charging, offering 2–5 hours of riding time.
If you want to go further, an optional 160 Wh TQ HPR Range Extender fits neatly in a standard bottle cage, boosting range by up to 40% without adding unnecessary bulk.
Smart Connectivity and Control
The TQ LED display is compact and easy to read, giving you all the key ride stats at a glance. With Bluetooth and ANT+ connectivity, it links seamlessly to the Trek Central app, allowing you to fine-tune motor settings, track rides, check battery status and even access real-time range calculations and navigation features.
Trail-Ready Design and Handling
Built from Alpha Platinum Aluminium, the frame uses Trek’s Mino Link system to adjust geometry between slacker or steeper head angles, while ABP (Active Braking Pivot) keeps suspension active and controlled even under braking. The RockShox Recon Silver RL fork offers 150 mm of travel, and the X-Fusion Pro 2 shock provides 140 mm at the rear — perfect for tackling technical trails and flowing descents with confidence.
A Shimano Deore M6100 12-speed drivetrain delivers smooth, precise shifting, and the Tektro HD-M745 4-piston brakes offer consistent stopping power on demanding terrain. Rolling on Bontrager Line TLR 29" wheels wrapped in XT3 Elite 2.4" tyres, this bike balances grip, speed and stability for all-day trail performance.
Fine Details that Matter
A TranzX dropper post with 150 mm travel adds control on descents, while a Bontrager Arvada saddle ensures comfort over long rides. The bike’s internal cable routing keeps the setup neat and protected from trail debris, and Boost148 rear spacing increases stiffness for precise handling.
With its balanced geometry, refined power delivery and trail-focused design, the Trek Fuel EXe 5 is for riders who love the feel of a traditional trail bike — just with that little extra boost when the climb gets tough.

* Mountain bikes are sized differently to road bikes. Typically, they are sized in inches as the first MTBs were produced in the USA. European brands like Lapierre and Haibike like to use centimetres for all their bikes. The measurements of their mountain bikes doesn’t match their road bikes but are like a simple conversion from the inches measurement. This is why we have included cm measurements in brackets for the Mountain bike column.
Read our bike size guide for more information on sizing.
