The Trek Procaliber 8 is built for riders who enjoy the efficient feel of a cross-country hardtail but want enough capability for more varied trails. Its Alpha Platinum Aluminium frame combines a lightweight, responsive platform with modern geometry designed to feel composed when the terrain becomes rougher or steeper.
Trek now produces this frame using low-emission aluminium made with renewable energy, part of a move away from higher-emission aluminium across its alloy bike production. The frame also uses a straightforward threaded BSA bottom bracket and SRAM's Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH), making replacement and maintenance easier.
Up front, the RockShox Recon Gold RL uses a DebonAir air spring, allowing pressure to be adjusted to suit your weight and riding style. Its 120mm of travel gives you more support over roots, rocks and trail features than a traditional shorter-travel XC setup, while the Motion Control damper and lockout let you adjust its behaviour for smoother climbs and faster sections.
SRAM's Eagle 70 T-Type drivetrain uses a wide 10-52t cassette and 32-tooth chainring, providing plenty of low gearing for steep off-road climbs while retaining useful range when the trail speeds up. The T-Type system is designed around SRAM's Full Mount interface, creating a robust drivetrain setup suited to mountain biking.
The 29in Bontrager Kovee wheels help maintain momentum over rough surfaces and are tubeless ready, giving you the option to remove the inner tubes and experiment with lower tyre pressures. They're paired with 2.4in Maxxis Rekon Race tyres, which use a relatively fast-rolling tread suited to XC riding, with EXO casing protection adding durability for rocky trails.
A 150mm Bontrager Line dropper post adds useful versatility beyond traditional XC riding. Lowering the saddle gives you more space to move around the bike on steep descents, through corners and over technical features, then returns it to full height for efficient pedalling.
Shimano hydraulic disc brakes combine MT410 callipers with MT4100 levers for predictable speed control in changing conditions. Boost thru axles at both ends help create a secure connection between the wheels and frame or fork.
Hidden rack and kickstand mounts also broaden the Procaliber's usefulness beyond faster trail riding. They allow the frame to accept practical accessories without adding visible mounts to its clean XC-focused design.
The Procaliber 8 brings together the simplicity and pedalling efficiency of a hardtail with a 120mm fork, wide tyres and a full-length dropper post. That makes it a good choice for riders who enjoy covering ground quickly but don't want their XC bike to feel limited when the route includes more technical trails.

* Mountain bikes are sized differently to road bikes. Typically, they are sized in inches as the first MTBs were produced in the USA. European brands like Lapierre and Haibike like to use centimetres for all their bikes. The measurements of their mountain bikes doesn’t match their road bikes but are like a simple conversion from the inches measurement. This is why we have included cm measurements in brackets for the Mountain bike column.
