small, neat and loud

Had one of these before for my vintage bike so got another. Will only fit a 25mm dia stem or childs handlebar. Fiddly to fit but once fit are sturdy. A nice clear ping which pedestrians can hear adequately. Look tidy on my old bike. Shame it cant be customized to fit modern handlebars.

Not universal fit.

I knew the brand Widek from their large cling-clang bells on old dutch bikes so was drawn to this this little bell for my touring/commuting bike. The bell does make a nice loud and resounding ping, about 50% louder to my ears than my Knog Oi. However, it is listed as 'universal size'. I imagined it coming with some rubberised style attachment, but alas no. It doesn't come close to fitting my chunky road bars, same story on my girlfriend's bike. As a consolation I set about fitting it to my 80's made pub-going 3 speed which the band seemed too big for! I was tightening the bolt, beginning to get decent hold and the band snapped. If I did over-tighten it, the tolerance was tiny. I'll be going down the LBS for a replacement.

Only fits narrow diameter bars!
by Anonymous user on 23/11/2019

If you’ve got (what has become) normal oversize bars, this won’t fit.

Bells & Horns Guide

What are bike bells and horns?

Bells and horns are a great way of alerting other road or path users to your presence. They are easy to attach to your handlebars and come in a variety of shapes, sizes and loudness options.

Who needs a bells or horn?

If you regularly cycle on paths designed for bikes and pedestrians, bells and horns are a must-have for alerting people to your presence.

What are the choices?

There are a variety of bells and horns to choose from, varying in budget and volume. Choose one that’s easy to operate when wearing gloves and one that’s unlikely to rust quickly.

What should I buy with them?

Other accessories for your handlebars include lights and cycle computers – why not create yourself a mini control panel of useful devices?

Anything else?

Why can’t an elephant ride a bicycle? Because he doesn’t have a thumb to ring the bell.
