What is cycling headwear?

Cycling headwear covers quite a range – caps, snoods, beanies and headbands to wear with your cycling helmet.

Who needs cycling headwear?

Cycling headwear is most useful for winter cyclists who need to keep their ears and scalp warm, but lightweight cotton caps will also keep summer roadies cool and guard against sunburn.

What are the choices?

In winter a headband or beanie will cover your ears and keep you warm. A snood can be drawn over your neck or face for even more coverage. Shade your eyes in summer with a cotton cap under your helmet – if it’s really hot you can even soak it in cold water before putting it on.

What should I buy with it?

A helmet – cycling headwear is designed to be work with your helmet, not to replace it.

Anything else?

It’s surprising how much your head warms up while riding, so make sure your headwear is breathable and wicking.
