What are bike bottles and cages?
A bottle and cage set-up is a really efficient way of staying hydrated while you’re riding. Simply reach out and your beverage is close at hand. It’s so important to drink plenty of fluid while you’re riding to prevent dehydration, so anything that makes it easier to do that is a must-have.
Who needs a bottle and cage?
Riders who need instant refreshment use bottles and cages. Whether the bottle contains water or an energy drink, it’s close at hand and easily supped from a specifically designed mouthpiece. Remember, even if you’re pootling along at a sedate pace, you’re still exercising, which is always thirsty work.
What are the choices?
Choose the bottle which you’ll find easiest to drink out of and the most simple to use with an accompanying cage. The cage selection ranges from feather light carbon holders to sturdy steel receptacles. Side-loading cages are great for compact frames where space is at a premium. BPA-free construction means you won’t ingest any nasty chemicals.
What should I buy with them?
A bottle brush is brilliant for cleaning, especially with smaller bristles to clean the mouthpiece. If your bike doesn’t have eyelets for a cage, there are adaptors available.
Anything else?
Make sure you regularly clean your bottle – it’s very easy to leave it festering on your bike. A few ice cubes in summer gives you a refreshingly chilled drink.
