Named after the encouragements that French spectators like to shout during iconic road races like the Tour de France, the Specialized Allez is the go to road race bike for new and experienced riders who are looking for performance at an affordable price point. Showcasing the capabilities of alloy framed road bikes the Specialized Allez range includes fully capable all-rounders and ultra-stiff race rockets.
The Specialized Allez models highlighted in this review are aimed at three distinct cycling groups. Offering a lightweight and responsive ride at a very competitive price point, the Allez, Allez Sport and Allez Elite were been completely redesigned in 2018 and deliver exceptional all-round performance, for cyclists looking for their first proper road bike. The Win Tunnel (Specialized’s very own wind tunnel) tuned Allez Sprint Comp is an aero road bike for cyclists who want true Criterium racing performance, now also available with a disc brakes version.

The aluminium alloy frame is now an incredible 450-grams lighter than before, thanks to aggressive tube butting and smooth welding. Handling and ride quality have also been improved and the Allez now features a tapered head tube for increased steering precision. The dropped seatstays offer a smoother ride as well as improving the aerodynamics of the bike. The Allez Junior also features formed tubes and smooth welds in a more affordable A1 Premium aluminium frame.
Inspired by the Tarmac, its multi-Grand-Tour-winning carbon brother, the Allez features razor sharp road race handling. The head tube is slightly taller on the new model for a slightly more relaxed ride and improved comfort on long days in the saddle. Utility has also been improved with the addition of rack and fender mounts – ideal for commuting and winter training.
Combining the very latest D’Aluisio Smartweld technology – that repositions the head tube welds to increase strength while reducing weight – with Win Tunnel optimized tube shapes, the Allez SL Sprint models offer the very best in aluminium alloy technology to help you to race faster.
The fork has also been upgraded every Allez, and now features a full monocoque FACT carbon fork which further reduces weight while increasing steering response. The Allez Sprint models get an S-Works FACT carbon fork for the very best front-end performance.

The Specialized Allez models are all fitted with compact 50/34t chainsets with wide range 11-32t cassettes which offer a good spread of gears that are ideal for everyday road riding. While you get the same range on all Allez, the gaps between each gear get smaller as you move up through the range. This means you will find it easier to find the perfect gear on every gradient. The Allez Elite now features a Shimano 105 2x11 speed drivetrain, while the Sport gets Sora 2x9 speed and the entry-level Allez has Claris 2x8 speed. At the top of the range, the Allez Sprint Comp models feature Shimano 105 2x11 speed drivetrains combined with Praxis mid-compact 52/36t chainsets to offer higher gear ratios for race ready performance.
Traditional dual pivot calliper brakes are fitted to all models for a familiar road race feel that offers easier servicing and adjustment than disc brakes. The Allez Junior is equipped with a Shimano Claris 2x8 speed drivetrain with low ratio 46/34 chainset that is perfect for aspiring young cyclists.
With so much technology put into the high-tech frame and fork it is not surprising that the wheels on the Allez are not the flashiest. That said the DT Swiss R460 wheels on the Allez sport and up offer excellent rolling performance while the Axis clincher wheels on the entry-level models are dependable performers that will give you years of faithful service.
The Allez models roll on 25mm tyres that are ideal for everyday rides (the frame can take up to 28mm tyres). All the tyres feature BlackBelt puncture protection for reliable all-weather cycling.
