Front rail attachment
Since 2014 all Ass Savers attach to the front saddle rails only, ahead of the seat post attachment. The advantage with this solution is that saddles are more uniform in this area and we can therefore provide a proper fit to a much wider range of saddles. Attaching only to the front rails makes the Ass Saver self centering. If you accidentally kick it without noticing, it will strive to regain it's centered position. This is one of the key innovations in saddle mudguard technology and is therefore protected under a pending patent No. SE PRV 1750201-4

FLIP-TIP™
Using origami principles, the patent pending FLIP-TIP™ technology allows you to securely fasten the Ass Saver to the saddle with a simple flip of the tip, just like a cycling cap. To unlock, just flip the tip back down and pull backwards. Carbon rails The FLIP-TIP® technology is fully compatible with all types of carbon saddle rails.

Saddle bag compability
The new Ass Saver is a lot easier to install with a saddle bag than previous models. While we can't guarantee a perfect fit with all saddle bags, great improvements hav been made with considerably less interference as a result.

Pre-folding
The secret to transforming a flat piece of plastic into a functioning product lies in the pre-folding prior to use. All the scoring lines have been carefully engineered to achieve locking mechanisms, self centering abilities, spring loading and material endurance. Please take the time to properly read the instructions/see the instruction video to ensure the best performance.

Occasionally, without notice, manufacturers change product design and/or specifications.

Rear Mudguard Guide

Rear Mudguard Guide

Why use mudguards?

A rear bike mudguard can make a huge difference in the quality of your ride. Keeping the water and mud away from you and your bike will keep you warm and comfortable while protecting your bike from grit and cutting down maintenance. Luckily there are many types available to fit every style of bike.

While full-length mudguard sets are the prefered option for road and hybrid commuters, leisure cyclists and mountain bikers have a few different options for rear mudguards. Front mudguards are also available for all types of hybrid, gravel and MTB's

What type of rear mudguard will fit my bike?

A full-length mudguard will give the most protection, but the traditional style needs attachment points on the frame and forks. This style is suited to recreational road and hybrid bikes. For more information, please see our mudguard guide.

If your bike doesn't have the mounting points for a full-length mudguard set, there are still plenty of other options available.

Frame mounted rear mudguards

Mountain bikes, especially full-suspension frames, will not have any mounting points and eyelets for traditional full-length mudguards. A traditional mudguard is not very good off-road as they rattle on and rub on rough terrain. Luckily, there are rear mudguards that securely attach to the frame using zip-ties or Velcro strips.

This style is the most effective at keeping the crud away. The closer the mudguard to the tyre, the less chance any mud or water can escape and cover your body and bike. Once mounted tightly this style is solid and is the best for mountain bikers.

Seatpost mounted rear mudguards

A rear mudguard mounted to the seatpost is secure and effective. A universal design that uses a clamp to mount around the seatpost. There are a few different designs but all work in a very similar way. The closer the mudguard can be to the tyre, the more effective it is at stopping the spray from being thrown up by the back wheel.

This is a universal design, so long as your bike has a saddle height higher than the top of the back wheel and there is some exposed seatpost for the clamp then this type of rear guard will fit. A frame-mounted type will be best for mountain bikers who ride rough terrain, but for the majority of leisure cyclists, a seatpost mounted mudguard will be effective and easy to install.

Saddle mounted mudguards

While not as effective as a frame or saddle mounted mudguard, a simple saddle mounted mudguard has many advantages. Very easy to install, this type of mudguard fits between the saddle and the seat clamp. It slots neatly around the saddle rails with a folding design to lock into place. You will need a traditional saddle that has two parallel rails to fit this type of mudguard.

There are wider versions to give more protection and narrower options for those with thin road bike tyres. This design, though slight, will keep the worst of the spray away from your saddle and bottom. They are very light, not expensive, quick to install and very modest when riding. You will barely notice a simple rear saddle mounted mudguard.

Summary

Mountain biking in the mud with a mudguard

While perhaps not the best visual addition to your bike, a rear mudguard is the best way to keep your back and bottom dry through the rain and mud.

Mountain bikers now have a good, rattle-free solution with a frame-mounted mudguard. Leisure cyclists on bikes with no eyelets or mounting points can benefit from a seatpost mounted guard, while road riders and those who want the most inconspicuous and light option will enjoy the dry feeling thanks to a saddle mounted mudguard.
