      Frustrating and just wrong.
      by Anonymous user on 24/07/2020

Both pedals very stiff and notchy to turn. Stripped them down to regrease and reset bearing preload. Impossible to set preload as no fixed washer between locknut and bearing preload nut. No grooves on threaded stem for washer as per normal pedal. Very annoying. Had to jam screwdriver in to try and hold bearing nut. Believe old and new versions are okay but these (V2?) are not. If I hadn’t stripped them down I would have sent them back.

      Great but a bit small
      by Anonymous user on 23/06/2019

i brought these pedals a couple of months ago and they worked great. However the surface area on the pedals is a bit small. I had a few cuts on my shin but nothing too serious. Until yesterday where my foot slipped off the pedal, splitting my shin open and leaving me with 8 stitches in my shin, ouch. I have now invested in some shin guards so it wont happen again!

      Superb
      by Anonymous user on 10/09/2018

Absolutely fantastic for the price. I've only just got my first bike so didn't want to spend a fortune. These give excellent grip and were so simple to attach. They feel like an excellent quality product to me!

      Quality

A quality pedal for the money! Obviously if you're looking for a better performing pedal then you'll be looking at the at higher priced ones or the DMR V12's but for the money you can't grumble. Grip is ok on these but then and again I've not been riding with MTB shoes, just normal trainers, had the odd slip here and there in wet weather but I guess thats expected sometimes!

      Not Quite 5 Star
      by Paul W on 28/01/2017

Overall these are a good quality pedal for the money. They seem quite robust, well finished and the grip is excellent. However, as another reviewer has pointed out the alloy dust seal on the inner side of the pedal doesn't stay in place so is totally ineffective. I have only covered about 50 miles so far and one pedal has started to get 'notchy', probably from dirt getting into the bearing. If they could rectify this small problem it would be a five star product.

      Platform Pedals Guide

      Platform Pedals Guide

Platform pedals, often known as flat pedals are the pedal of choice for most cyclists. Away from the standard type seen on leisure and commuter bikes, there is a wide range of more specific mountain bike and BMX pedals.
Flat pedals have a loyal following amongst DH, freeride and trail riders who like the flexibility of not being attached to the pedal. Being able to dab a foot, adjust position and jump off the bike quickly is invaluable.

While power transfer will not be as high as a clipless pedal, modern pedals are incredibly grippy. Adjustable pins mean a rider and dial in the feel for them, a wide platform gives full support across a large surface area, and the solid construction can handle the abuse taken from rock strikes.

      Pins

Pins grip the sole of your shoe to keep your foot in place while still giving you the freedom to take your foot off whenever you like. The pedal body is generally made of reinforced nylon or aluminium for greater durability.

Often they are adjustable in length with a small allen key. Some riders prefer the pins to dig into the shoe for ultimate grip, others prefer to be able to reposition their foot by having the pins less pronounced from the platform.

      DMR Pedals with replaceable pins

These are particularly good for control when you're riding off-road on tricky terrain. The main advantage of flat pedals is you aren't attached to your bike, so can get your foot down with ease.

Pins are replaceable on the higher-end models. Some higher-end pedals have features like grease ports and magnesium or titanium construction to save weight.

      Shape & Size

They come in different shapes and sizes some with a more concave shape to suit rider preference.
Platform pedals come in different sizes that suit diferent sized feet and give different levels of support.
The pedal body itelf can have different profile. A low profile pedal will offer more clearence from ground strikes and give better power transfer, while a high profile pedal will likely be more robust and contail larger bearings and be easier to service.

      • Simple and effective
      • Easy to bail from the bike
      • Specific shoe not essential
      • Limited winter specific flat pedal shoes
      • Feet can be blown off on rough terrain
      • Thicker pedals can strike the ground on rough terrain
Two Crank Brothers pedals differ in shape and size

      Axles

Steel or Titanium can be used for the axle with the latter being much lighter. Mid and High-range pedals run on sealed cartridge bearings with many seals for long-lasting performance.
Mid to high range pedals can be seried by the user, often there is a combination of bearngs and bushings used internally. Brands like Crank Bros, Nukeproof and DMR will sell service kits making it possible to do this at home.

Axle material can make a big impact on pedal weight
