Bike Pedals

Bike pedals are an essential upgrade on many bikes because the pedals supplied may not offer you the personal performance that you need. This is especially true with road and mountain bikes.

Types of bike pedal: There are three main types of pedals for bikes. Cage pedals are the traditional type and are okay for casual cycling. Platform pedals are also known as flat pedals, these offer support and more grip for your shoes. Clipless pedals attach securely to a cleat on your shoe and offer the best pedalling efficiency.

Mountain biking pedals: You can choose either flat or clipless pedals for a mountain bike. MTB clipless pedals use a small SPD style cleat that attaches to your shoe with two bolts. They also feature double sided engagement, so you can stick your foot out on a slippery turn, then easily clip back in again. Flat pedals have pins that stick to your shoe and some riders prefer these as it’s easier to take your foot off.

Road bike pedals: Clipless pedals are the only choice for serious road cycling. Road bike pedals have bigger 3 bolt SPD-SL style cleats that offer a more secure attachment to the pedal for improved power and efficiency.
