Product Description

A connoisseur light for the serious commuter and dedicated winter roadies. The Moon Meteor Storm Pro is designed for style and output. The Combination of 2 Cree XM-L 2 (U2) LEDs kick out up to 2000 lumens of light. The two LEDs are angled separately to give you true flood and spot lighting in one unit.

The circuit board on which the Cree LEDs are mounted is copper coated. The copper coating helps manage the temperature and aid performance.  A better cooling system can increase both the run time and brightness of an LED; the lights performance can be improved 15%-30% by managing the heat.

To aid in reducing the temperature in the system, the Meteor light is designed with an aluminium body and comes equipped with and integrated air vent cooling system. The rear of the light acts as a heat sink to help disperse heat away from the light.

The overheating protection system protects the light and LED from burn out. If airflow is reduced and the temperature begins to rise the light will select a lower brightness level until the airflow and cooling improves.

The new safety mode means that once the battery level falls below predefined level, this selects the brightest mode that guarantees 1 hour run time to get you home.

The Moon memory mode function ensure that when you turn you light back on, it returns to the last selected mode

Great light - not up to British weather!

This light has been pretty fantastic since I've had it. The brightness and variety of modes and run times are really what sold it toe over the like of cateye. However, I rode with the light in some mild rain for 2 hours on the weekend. The light changed modes on its own twice, which wasn't a good sign. When I got home I could see what had gotten into the main body of the light. It's still working ing currently but I'll be keeping a good eye on it as it's still in warranty.

Moon beam magic!

Recently bought this as I cycle to work every day ,mostly off road and coming back though the woods at night was getting sketchy with my old one. This light is amazing literally night an Day and I don't even need to use full power at night to light up the whole path witch means the battery last ages. Build quality seems solid it feels well built and the remote switch is I lovely touch but will put some grip tape on the bar the stop it moving at All. So chuffed I think this product is great for the price just hope it holds up when it's really hammering it down!

Love this powerful light

Bought one for winter 2017-2018, and just started using again for a 12 mile ride on unlit 60 mph country roads. (I use a mini flashing light alongside for extra visibility. The road was also misty in places. The light gave me visibility miles ahead at around or just over 20 mph, and nota single car driver failed to dip their lights from quite a long way off! In the mist, the beam was such that my visibility was unimpaired, which is not usually the case with my car headlights! All this was on the 1200 lumen max setting. NB you do have to be careful not to set the angle of the light so drivers get dazzled, and make it tight enough in your bars so it holds that angle. Considering the price of competitor units, this is a bargain, and I haven’t even tried the remote control out on the road yet! Highly recommended.

Brilliant Bright Light

Only use on day time flash, not allowed out in the dark! Certainly alerts other road users to your presence on the road. Great on the county roads and you can see it lighting up cats eye's. Quite often just use as a torch, fantastic. Slightly heavy but lasts for ages on a charge, well worth the investment for reassurance on the road.

Awesome Front Light

This was my First Moon bike light and it does a fantastic job of lighting the way along my night rides. The remote button for power, change brightness and modes is really handy as it lets me make changes at a touch of a button without taking my eyes off the road. My only gripe is that i wish the brightness levels went brighter instead of dimmer....or even better, a two way switch to go either way of your choice. The run times are decent, but i wish the recharge time was quicker. The clamping system is easy to mount and quick release system is great for when i need to recharge it. Lovin my Moon bike lights. Check out the Meteor C1 if you want a good helmet light! :)

Front Bike Lights Guide

Front Bike Lights Guide

If you ride lit streets and roads after dark you will need lights so you can be seen by other road users. If you ride roads and paths with no street lighting then a front light will be needed so you can see, not just be seen. The brightness of a light is measured in Lumen.

Mountain bikers who wish to ride trails in the dark will need two super-powerful front lights. Front lights almost always have a more powerful output than rear lights.

Lumen is the measure of the brightness of a light, though it is worth noting that not all brands measure in the same way. The lens has a massive effect on what we see lit ahead, some lights will have a widespread while others will be more of a spot.

We have a lights comparison tool and rear lights guide to help you choose the right bike light for your needs.

Commuter/Road Lights

What to look for

If you commute on lit-up city streets, you will need lights to be seen by, rather than to see by. A front light with around 100 lumens should be enough for city commuting, over 400 Lumen will be best if you ride fast or you live in a darker area. Add lumen to your front light requirements up to around 800 for a totally dark cycle path.

The more lights you have, the more visible you will be to traffic so ideally, you should have more than one light with one on flash mode so you are seen clearly at junctions and crossings by other road users. Flashing lights are much easier to see by others especially when it is raining.

Off-road Lights

Ultimate illumination

If you're a mountain biker and want to venture onto the trails after dark, you won't have any street lighting to guide you. That's when super-powerful front lamps with rechargeable batteries come into their own. Lighter units have the battery built into the light body, while the longest lasting and most powerful lights have a separate battery unit attached to your bike, in a bottle cage mount, for instance.

One light on the bars and one attached to the helmet work best. lights in this category tend to have thousands of Lumens. At this High-end the battery technology has vastly improved usage and charging time over cheaper lights. The mounts are designed to cope with the rigours of mountain biking, with lenses that optimise the magnification and spread for trail riding.

Batteries and charging

There are two main power sources for your lights: ordinary batteries such as AA which need replacing when they run out, or those with a rechargeable battery built in. Rechargeable lights used to be far more expensive, but there are now many cost-effective and compact units available which can recharge from your computer with a USB cable.

This makes them a brilliant option for commuters, who can charge them at their office desk during the day. There are other ways to charge your lights. Dynamo hubs store charge from your rotating wheel. They do require a new wheel to be built but need no power source other than your own legs. Modern dynamo hubs have very minimal drag and are the perfect choice for long distance touring a bikepacking. There are even a few solar power lights for totally carbon neutral cycling!

Technology

The majority of modern front lights use Lithium-ion batteries that give long burn times for relatively short charge time.
Most lights have different modes of power including a flash or strobe mode. Higher power modes will use more battery.

The lens has a large effect on the light, though there are variations most will give a spot with a wider but less bright halo around the centre.
Most modern lights especially those designed for off-road use will have a water-resistant rating with an IP number. In brief the larger the number the better protected against water and dust the light will be.

Lights commonly use either clamps or straps/bands to attach. For off-road lighting clamps are common helping the light stay in place over rough terrain, often featuring a quick release system.
