Product Description

Tortec Reflector full length mudguards are the perfect choice for busy commutes. Made from extremely durable Chromo-Tec (plastic and aluminium laminate) these fenders will last daily exposure to the elements, and won’t chip or crack with the impact of small stones. The Reflector mudguards are full length to give you the most protection from possible from debris.

Both front and rear mudguards have reflective strips running down each side for better side-on visibility. That visibility is especially useful at junctions and cross-roads in low light conditions. A rear reflector on the back fender also helps improve your visibility to drivers behind you.

Fitted to Boardman Hybrid Team

A little fiddly to put together but once on the mudguards feel solid and there is little to no rattling when clearing speed humps on my way to work. I purchased them in black and they look smart especially with the white line of the reflectors following the arc. Only thing to bear in mind is that the bike has a carbon fork which is too wide for the screw provided so I had to find a longer screw to fit. I like that fact that they clear the disc brakes and the reflector on the back provides extra visibility. Overall happy with my choice.

Good once fitted but fitting is hard work

Took me about 2hrs to get these fitted the way I wanted. Now they are on they are great but the fitment is more a trial of ingenuity!

Overly complicated

It really shouldn't be this complicated to fit a pair of mudguards. You have to pre-fit them, measure them up, and fit them again. Because the angle of the stays are way off form the holes on the guards, you have to flex the stays quite a bit to fit them, this can make things fiddly. Oh, you will need some way to cut the stays, the instructions suggest a hacksaw. (used bolt cutters, which i had to buy). Because of the return policy, at least i can say i am now a proud owner of a pair of bolt cutters. Requires plenty of patience; I'm sure they'll do the job, now fitted, but i would not buy again.

Great if you are a mind reader

I haven't actually managed to get these bad boys fitted to my bike yet. This is mainly because the instructions assume that you are a mind reader. Fortunately I'm going to a Derren Brown event this weekend and I'm confident that he'll be able to fit them for me.

Good 'gaurds.

Got these for new hybrid with disc brakes. Have them already on another bike, so know they do what they're supposed to. Red relector keeps you legal in the dark, reflective side bits an added bonus. Bit of jiggery-pokery required to bend the front stays around the brake caliper, but otherwise an easy fit. Tip for cutting the stays to length, use a small pair of bolt croppers, so much easier than a hacksaw.

take your time

Great mudguards they end up really solid and rattle free when fitted. Fitting them though is a bit of a chore; here is what worked for me. fitted the frame bolts with a little wiggle room. fitted the stays to the guards without the black covers. bolted stays to frame. refitted wheel and lined up the guard. marked the stays for cutting. used a good hacksaw and cut the stays. refitted the stays with the black covers this time. tightened up all the stay bolts. removed the rear wheel and checked the frame bolts. remember to check for position of your stay eyelets on the front forks and where the disc brake caliper is. I made a little bracket to go under the top caliper mounting bolt; you may be able to use a 'P' clip or bend the stays.

Mudguards good but Yodel delivery rubbish

Mudguards are a bit fiddly to fix but take your time. I would say thet are better than SKS as they have covers for support ends and hopefully wont break as easily.... On the negative side YODEL delivery is a joke, to cut a long story short I would never use them again!

Tortec reflective full length mudguards

Excellent mudguards at a bargain price from Tredz. Fitting took an hour as cutting to length is needed ( a vice and metal saw helps) but the result is a superb looking, solid, safe and highly durable product. Highly recommended.

Excellent mudguards, very reflective

These mudguards arent any harder to fit than any others; stays need bending and cutting to individual bikes, but thats the nature of these things. Ive had about 4 sets on various bikes over recent years, I keep using them as for a comuter or touring bike, the reflective strip adds another level of 'free' safety. I often supplement this with reflective tape on the frame. They always take me a little while to fit, but then Im a perfectionist re: cutting and bending the stays, and getting a nice even curved gap over the tyre. Especially important at the front, where big feet and a medium size frame normally lead to toe overlap. An excellent product.

Quality Guards

Fantastic quality mudguards as you would expect at this price point. Fitted to Boardman MX Comp (700 x 37c). Rear guard straightforward, fits well and looks good. Front guard needed modification as frame has no eyelets on front forks to receive stays - my mistake! Long ride today over wet ground - mudguards performed impeccably. Would recommend, just make extra sure they are compatible with your bike.

Mudguard Guide

Which mudguards are best for me?

Mudguards come in three main types – full length, clip-on and mountain bike style. Depending on your bike frame you may be able to fit some or all of these types.

Full length mudguards

These traditional looking mudguards are commonly fitted to hybrid and touring bikes. They're great for commuting too as they offer the most protection. The long rear mudguard also keeps the rider behind clean.

You will need a bike frame with eyelets – usually at the apex on the fork and where you rear wheel fits to the frame (at the dropouts). If your bike doesn't have eyelets (most mountain bikes and road bikes) you'll want can consider clip-on mudguards.

Clip-on mudguards

Clip-on mudguards are super easy to fit to your frame and offer a good amount of coverage for you and your frame. Simple fastenings make fitting and removal quick which is great if you want one set of mudguards for multiple bikes.

You can usually fit clip-on mudguards to road bikes with minimal clearance such as race bikes.

MTB style mudguards

Mostly fitted to mountain bikes, these mudguards are designed to mount to your downtube or fork crown and clamped to the seatpost. They're ideal for any bike with suspension and will fit to almost any frame design. Simple attachment means these guards are quick to fit and remove. These mudguards will offer limited protection compared to the other two types, but they will stop much of the spray.

How to choose a compatible mudguard?

Check your wheel size and tyre width

When buying a mudguard you'll have to choose one that will fit your wheel size and cover the width of your tyre.

You can find both these figures on the sidewall of your tyre. You will see a combination of digits such as 700x32 or 27.5x2.40. The first digit is your wheel diameter (size) and the second digit is tyre width. Road bikes are measured in millimeters while mountain bikes are measure in inches.

Check your brake clearance (full length mudguards)

There should be a 20mm gap between the top of your tyre and the mudguard and about 5mm either side. Most standard road caliper brakes offer up to around 40mm while deep drop (also known as long drop) brakes have arms over 55mm to allow room for mudguards.

Depending on the thickness of your tyre, your brake arms may have to extend 50mm or over to reach the braking rim.

What if my bike has suspension?

You can't bolt a mudguard onto the apex of a suspension fork like you can a rigid one. You'll want to make sure the mudguard doesn't touch your wheel when the fork is fully compressed.

If you have a full suspension MTB you're main concern isn't likely getting wet and muddy. If you run a dropper post you won't want the mudguard clamp getting in the way, so it's best to avoid having a mudguard.
