Giant XTC Advanced 1 29er Review
When I first had the XTC I was drawn in by the vibrant Red, White and Black paint work with a gloss finish. It has a classic XC look with the retro Fox 32 forks, complete with Black stations.
Aesthetics
The Carbon frame means that the bike has been designed with smooth lines and curves, obviously excluding the need for unsightly welds! The XTC is a lovely looking bike which will grab everyone’s attention at the trail centre and on race day.
Ascending on the XTC
Because of the stiffness of the Carbon frame and Carbon wheels, coupled with the lightness of the bike, the XTC ascends beautifully with minimal effort.
Although it is not the lightest XC bike available, it is exceptionally light for its price, making it ideal for the entry level XC racer. The ascents are smooth and it is easy to get the bike over obstacles due to the stiffness; it allows an efficient transfer of power from the pedal stroke to the wheels to push you up and over.
Descending on the XTC
Although this is a 29er hardtail, I have to say it descends incredibly well! The bike is light and easy to flick through the corners as well as easy to pop over jumps and obstacles. This makes for a super fun ride on all types of trails. I have taken the XTC on some of the tamer downhill tracks at the Forest of Dean and I could not fault it. It feels solid and easy to control on all types of terrain.
Pros & Cons

- Responsive handling
- High spec components
- Big 29er wheels are not suited to tight technical trails so make sure you pick a bike suited to your riding style
