Trek Domane Gen 5 First Look
We recently got to take the Domane Gen 5 out for a test, click our video here where we talk you through all the key features and let you know how it rides.
Light & Capable
The Trek Domane is an all-round road bike that balances long-distance comfort with performance. For the all-new Domane Gen 5, Trek has made it lighter, simpler and more capable, creating a versatile bike for everything from fast club rides to rough roads and occasional gravel.
Carbon frame
The biggest updates to the Domane Gen 5 are in the carbon frame, with the SLR frameset shedding over 300g compared to the previous generation. Trek has also removed IsoSpeed, instead using the frame design, wider tyres and a new 27.2mm carbon seatpost to maintain comfort. Road Endurance Geometry remains, while new mounts for bags and mudguards add extra versatility.
Additional Tyre Clearance
Tyre clearance has increased on the Domane Gen 5, with 35mm tyres fitted as standard and clearance for up to 40mm. The extra space gives riders more freedom to tailor the bike to their riding, whether that’s faster tyres for smooth roads, wider rubber for extra comfort and grip, or a more capable setup for rough lanes and light gravel..
Relaxed Riding Position
Most Domane Gen 5 models, like the SL 6 AXS model featured here are equipped with Bontrager’s Riser Road Handlebar, adding 20mm of rise for a more upright and comfortable riding position. A shorter reach and flared drops improve accessibility and control, particularly in the drops. It comes standard on all models except the SLR 9 AXS 1x, while traditional road handlebars remain compatible for a lower position.
Performance Components
The Domane SL 6 AXS pairs its carbon frame with a SRAM Rival AXS electronic groupset for fast, precise wireless shifting. Bontrager Aeolus Elite 35 carbon wheels help keep the bike light and responsive. It’s a well-balanced build that delivers plenty of performance while maintaining the comfort and versatility that make the Domane a capable all-round endurance road bike.
Ride Feel
Despite its focus on comfort, the Domane Gen 5 feels noticeably lighter, snappier and more responsive than the previous generation, particularly when accelerating or climbing. Wider tyres and endurance geometry keep it composed and confident over rougher roads. It strikes a great balance, feeling quick and lively when pushing the pace while remaining comfortable and controlled over longer distances.
The Trek Domane Gen 5 is for riders who want a fast, versatile road bike that can handle more than smooth tarmac. With a comfortable riding position, low weight, generous tyre clearance and practical mounts, it’s well suited to sportives, club rides, long-distance riding and occasional gravel, balancing speed, comfort and versatility.
