Here we review the new Cube Stereo Hybrid 160 range. Part of the new breed of long travel E-Bikes with modern enduro geometry, these bikes are made to be incredibly capable at descending while climbing with ease. Top line componentry with a powerful Bosch motor mean you can save energy on the up’s and turn those flat parts of the trail into something fast and technical as never experienced before with a regular MTB.
170mm out front and 160mm of rear wheel travel, powerful brakes and wide aggressive tyres, these bikes will eat up any trail you can point it down while powering back to the top with ease for another run.
Available in 16, 18, 20 and 22” sizes the one-piece gravity cast down tube discretely houses the Bosch Intube battery. An easily removable, splash and dirt-proof cover protects it from the elements. The battery can be charged on or off the bike, there is even room for the all-important bottle cage in the frame.
The rear end continues the elegant-but-stiff theme with a Boost hub and internal cable routing keeping everything neat and tidy along with stealth dropper routing and a full active suspension design, remaining unaffected by pedalling or braking forces.
A slack 65.8 degree head angle and steep 74.3 degree seat tube angle give a bike that descends with confidence and climbs with ease.
Long reach and wheelbase are up to date with modern enduro geometry but not too extreme.
The four bar design has the same feel as Cube’s race proven Stereo ridden to EWS success by Greg Callaghan and the Cube Action Team.
The Fox 36 Float Factory fork and Float DPX2 Factory EVOL shock deliver smooth, trail-taming travel
170mm Fox 36 forks and custom tuned Fox shock give 160mm of rear wheel travel. The extra weight of the motor really plants the bike in the trail, the excellent suspension accentuates the high levels of grip on offer.
Often voted the best fork available, both versions of the bike have the stiff and supple Fox 36, with the excellent and highly adjustable DPX2 rear shock, the Action Team model benefits from the FIT4 damper up front, with the luxurious Kashima coated stanchions on shock and fork.
Performance CX motor now with the eMtb mode giving up to 300% assistance, made to help on the steep and technical climbs. The proven reliability of the class leading Bosch motor works better with high cadences and senses gear changes, giving strong 250W power and 75Nm of torque.
Small and clear Purion display gives access to 5 modes of assist including Turbo, eMTB, Tour, Eco and off.
Bosch CX drive system and Intube battery work in tandem with the SRAM EX1 8 speed transmission
The SRAM EX1 8 speed transmission whose wide ranging 11-48T cassette has been specifically designed to match the torque characteristics of the motor - which translates to incredibly smooth gear shifts, even under power.
The 160SL uses the highly respected Shimano XT M8000 series of gears and brakes, while the Action Team edition is equipped with the new Sram EX1 E-bike specific groupset and eye-wateringly powerful Shimano Saint brakes. Both bikes have wide range cassettes, and large 203mm brake rotors up front with Fox transfer stealth dropper seatposts.
The Action team gets the wide and light Newmen Evolution SL E.35 wheelset while the 160 SL gets XT hubs on Cube’s own wide rims, both wheelsets are tubeless ready with the tried and tested hard hitting enduro combo of Magic Mary up front and the faster rolling Nobby Nic tyres on the back.
It's a factory-level setup that you can rely on to deliver mile after mile of trail-taming fun.
Enduro riding extreme terrain with the ability to enjoy the climbs and flatter sections. Powerful motor and long range 500watt battery gives huge potential for big all mountain days, smashing downhill runs back to back, or flying round your favourite trail centre.
Both models of the Cube Stereo Hybrid 160 give incredible value for money, well thought out spec, modern geometry and ear to ear grins wherever you decide to point it.
